Yapahuwa

Yapahuwa was one of the ephemeral capitals of medieval Sri Lanka. king buwanekabahu was the first king of this fortress and he brought and kept Sri Lanka’s sacred Tooth Relic in here. The kingdom of Dambadeniya was at its peak during the mid-thirteenth century, especially during the reign of King Parakramabahu II. Once Sri Lanka’s seat of governance and home to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, today Yapahuwa is one of the country’s most unique and important sites of historic interest.
