Koneswaram Temple

The Koneswaram temple lies perched atop the cliff as part of an ancient Dutch fort and provides a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean and Trincomalee city. Koneswaram gains its name from the main deity of the temple, the Hindu God Shiva. It is believed that this Kovil has been in existence since 2500 years ago, and was renovated by the South Indian Chola King Kulakottan and maintained by other Sinhala Buddhist Kings.
