Stilt Fishing

Ritipanna is the Sinhalese term for stilt fishing, which is a traditional method for fishing practiced by most fishermen along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. During a tour down South, the Funday Times had the opportunity to have a chat with some of these fisher folk. The beautiful sight of fishermen perched branched poles as they fish skillfully during dawn, noon and dusk can now be commonly along the southern coast in towns such as Koggala, Kaththaluwa and Ahangama. Fishermen found on stilts are those who do not have access to sophisticated equipment for fishing.
